Personal and Career Development
Preparing for life and work is a complex process that begins in the early years of schooling and continues throughout our lives.   The SWS will take an active role—along with parents—in helping students move successfully from basic education to further studies and the workplace.
In the elementary grades, students explore their personal interests and values, and learn about different roles and career areas. They also begin to develop life skills, such as cooperating with others and being reliable

    Supports for Learning: Special Needs
Students have individual learning needs.  SWS provides a variety of programs and services to meet the individual needs of students.
Students with special education needs, including those with mild, moderate and severe disabilities, and those who are gifted and talented, require specialized learning opportunities in order to receive an education that is consistent with their identified learning needs.  The SWS aims to provide special education programming for all children with special education needs.
Most students with special education needs are placed in regular classrooms in their neighborhood or local schools and are provided with programming and supports and services to meet their individual needs throughout the school day.  All students with identified special education needs require an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP).  An ILP is a plan of action with measurable goals.  It identifies the child’s specific strengths, needs and current level of performance.  The ILP also explains what the child will be learning and how he or she will be learning. Parents, teachers and the student need to work together as a learning team to ensure that the IPP is implemented. In addition, SWS also has tie-up with external organizations to deal with students who may require referral to specialized health-care services.
